Prepare for a competition⌁
Summary
- If you are in doubt, contact Race Tracker well before the race.
- The following preparations must be done before a competition:
- Charge the trackers. It takes 3-4 hrs. to fully charge an empty tracker.
- Check that the trackers are turned on. Push the button. Green light = tracker is on.
- Place the trackers in a location where thay can esablish contact with the GPS-satelites. Preferably outside with a clear view of the sky.
- Check that the trackers are sending positions to the server. If you have access to the admin check that the last positions are fresh. If you do not have access to the admin this part has to be done in collaboration with Race Tracker and it should be done at the latest one hour before race start.
- Hand out the trackers to the correct participant.
How to charge the trackers⌁
If you recaive the trackers in a charigin tray simply connet the tray to electricity and check that all trackers are properly seated in their individuall magnetic docking. Check that the button light up. If ther is no light the trackers are not charging. When the button is green the tracker is ready to use.
How to turn on the tracker⌁
To check if a tracker is turned on simply push the button. If the light is green the tracker is on. If the light is red the tracker is off. The trackerne may be turned on "Over the air" (OTA). This means that we send each tracker a message tu tur itself on. If a tracker is off and needs to be turned on, push and hold the button for three seconds. Count 1001, 1002, 1003 and let go. If the tracker is turned on you will hear the confirmation sound: "daaa-di-di".
It is very importat to let the trackers establish contact with the GPS-satelites before they are hended out. Let the trackers lay still, with a clear view of the sky, for a minimum of 10 minutes before hand out.
Check that the trackers are sending as they should⌁
If the positions in Admin are new everything is working as it should. If you do not have access to the admin this check must be done in colaboration with Race Tracker. It is recommended to do this well before race start.
In the picture below we can see three trackers with old positions. At the far right, on the first and the two last lines, we see a red stopwatch icon. This means that the positions are older than the thershold we have set. We also see the date and time for the last received position.
Hand out the trackers to the correct participant.⌁
If a tracker is handed out to the wrong person the dot on the map will not represent the participant it says.
Placement of the tracker is important⌁
To optimize the working conditions for the GPS-module the tracker should be placed with the button facing the sky. We recoment to locate the tracker on the shoulder harness of the backpack or on top of the backpack lid.

When should we hand out the trackers⌁
Our experience is that the trackers should be handed out from 2 hrs. before start and minimum 30min before start. If the trackers are handed out the day before the race they will be forgotten by some of the racers. We also loose controll over where the trackers are stored and we have experienced that participants are showing up before the race with an empty tracker because the tracker has been left in an area without reception.
